What’s next? – USDJPY 24.10.17

Posted by Anonymous at 11:17 Labels: what’s next

The dollar exchanged at 113.37 against the Japanese yen in early trading hours on Tuesday, falling 0.06 percent as the American currency took a soft downturn.

The US dollar index, which gauges the greenback against six major rivals, was trading at 93.62 by the time of this writing, down 0.21 percent.

The greenback settled in green territory on Monday as speculation regarding Trump’s tax reform remained as the main driver in the light of no relevant releases for the session.

The Asian session was empty on the data front, but ahead in the day market participants will take a look at activity indexes from the United States.

Manufacturing, composite and services PMI for October in the United States will be out at 13:45 GMT. Consensus is predicting advances in both spheres.

The yen is seen as a safe-haven asset by investors, just like the euro or gold. Therefore, the Nippon currency is under pressure as interest is currently at high-return assets.

Attention this week is directed to Friday’s inflation report in the United States. These figures could impact expectations for further Federal Reserve interest rate hikes.

According to Fed funds tracked by CME Group’s FedWatch tool, investors are currently pricing in more than a 90 percent chance of a rate hike by December.

Higher interest rates promote demand for the dollar, making stronger against competitors.

Another issue affecting the pair is the uncertainty over who will replace Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen in February, when her contract expires.

According to sources, President Donald Trump has three options on the table: Stanford University economist John Taylor, Federal Reserve governor Jerome Powell and the current Fed chair Janet Yellen, who could be renominated to a second term.

"Most people are saying it's down to two – Mr Taylor and Mr Powell. I also met with Janet Yellen, who I like a lot, I really like her a lot," said Trump in a recent interview.
