Ahead This Week: Central Bank Speakers In Focus

Posted by Anonymous at 11:14 Labels: this is interesting

Monday

European Central Bank President Mario Draghi reassured on Monday that inflation within the bloc is growing consistently. However, he also explained that exchange rate volatility is making more difficult for economists to get a clear look at prices development.

“Overall, we are becoming more confident that inflation will eventually head to levels in line with our inflation aim, but we also know that a very substantial degree of monetary accommodation is still needed for the upward inflation path to materialize,” said the ECB Chief.

Speaking before the European Parliament’s committee on economic affairs in Brussels, Draghi once again defended ECB accommodative monetary policy, arguing that it is still needed.

“We also have to be sensitive to the danger of not halting a recovery through hasty monetary-policy decision making, [...] We can’t afford hasty moves.”
